Scholarships
San Diego MESA Alliance Engineering
Program Scholarship—The Math
Engineering Science Achievement
(MESA) Engineering Program (MEP)
is an umbrella group which encompasses
a diverse student population. IEC
annually donates toward the Scholarship
program, and also hosts job shadows,
facilitates career workshops, and
volunteers at engineering competitions.
IEC was recognized as the 2004-2005
Industry Supporter of the Year.
IEC’s Dolores Ventura, P.E.
serves as Chair for the organization.
CELSOC Scholarship—The
Consulting Engineers and Land Surveyors
of California (CELSOC) is a non-profit
association of private consulting
engineering and land surveying firms
dedicated to enhancing the consulting
engineering and land surveying professions.
IEC contributes annually to the
CELSOC Scholarship, which provides
funding for students who are pursing
civil engineering careers.
ASCE Scholarship—The American
Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
Scholarship promotes increased numbers
in the civil engineering industry.
IEC donates towards this scholarship
and also helps organize events that
benefit the Mike Espiritu Scholarship
Fund. This scholarship fund was
set up by Helix Water District and
benefits the students in the La
Mesa and El Cajon areas.
San Diego County Waterworks
Group Scholarship (SDCWWG)—Each
year SDCWWG administers and funds
scholarships for students who are
either employed by, or their parents
are employed by, a company in the
San Diego County water industry.
IEC has donated to the scholarship
fund by participating in raffles
and donating prizes at each of the
dinner meetings. We also sponsor
and provide volunteers for the annual
golf tournaments. IEC’s
support was recognized with the
2005 Consultant of the Year Award.
Community Service
Habitat for Humanity—A
nonprofit, nondenominational Christian
housing organization, who builds
simple, decent, affordable houses
in partnership with those who lack
adequate shelter. IEC volunteers
assisted with painting, yard work
and clean-up to make the lives of
families better.
Special Olympics and United
Cerebral Palsy—IEC individuals
support each of these organizations
throughout the year. IEC volunteers
to assist with the annual San Diego
Special Olympics event and with
the UCP’s annual walk which
supports their swim program.
Adopt A Senior Program—Several
members of IEC participate in the
Adopt a Senior Program which matches
volunteers to personnel living in
retirement homes. The program provides
an opportunity for seniors to bond
and interact with a family and plans
social gatherings for the seniors,
weekly visitations, and assistance
with transportation to doctor’s
appointments, church, etc.
Oceanside SUN/Crown Heights
Neighborhood Restoration—An
organization who develops and implements
housing and community development
programs, operates neighborhood
resource centers and coordinates
childcare services for the benefit
of low and moderate income households
throughout the City. IEC staff members
participate in an event to restore
low income neighborhoods including
activities such as painting house
exteriors, removing trash from the
streets, and removing graffiti.
