By pursuing leadership opportunities
within engineering organizations,
IEC employees have influenced programs
which reach out to a diverse population.
Moreover, by volunteering as leaders,
IEC employees directly contribute
their time and energy to the benefit
of both the engineering community
and the San Diego community.
Leadership positions either
currently held or previously held
by IEC employees are listed below:
American Public Works Association (APWA) - Director of the San Diego and Imperial Valley Chapter. The American Public Works Association is committed to promoting the profession of public works. The San Diego & Imperial Counties Chapter is committed to promoting sustainable public works projects in Southern California that improve the quality of life for the public.
City of Encinitas Traffic Commissioner - The Traffic Commission studies and reports to the City Council upon matters pertaining to traffic safety, flow and control in the City of Encinitas.
Leucadia-Encinitas HWY 101 Main Street Association Board Member and Chair of the Design Committee. The Design committee's goal is to enhance the physical appearance of the North Coast 101 corridor. Objectives of the Design committee will include: Involvement in discussion to repair/correct drainage of water throughout corridor, improvement of parking and pedestrian access, implementation of the Facade Grant program to assist business and property owners with their improvements, and participation in downtown capital projects including the North 101 Corridor Specific Plan and other private and/or public projects in the corridor.
Younger Member Forum (YMF) Director—The
YMF branch of ASCE is dedicated
to reaching out to the College students
to help with the transition to becoming
a professional engineer.
SDSU Society of Women Engineers
(SWE) Fundraising Chair—This
organization implements programs
which recruit more women into the
engineering field.
San Diego County Water Works
Group (Water Works Group) Vice President—The
Water Works group is dedicated to
promoting the water industry and
providing opportunities for students
to gain insight into the water facet
of Civil Engineering.
WateReuse Newsletter Editor-in-Chief
and Past Secretary and Treasurer—The
WateReuse Chapter was formed a couple
of years ago and one of the IEC
employees has been an active part
of its governing board. The chapter
is in preliminary plans to develop
programs which reach out to the
student population.
Two Past ASCE Pipeline Environmental
Presidents—The ASCE Pipeline
Environmental group prides itself
in welcoming students to their meetings
and site visits. Meeting the professionals
in one’s field is an important
step and the Pipeline group is a
perfect networking opportunity.
Past SDSU SWE President—SWE
programs included the annual Evening
of Professional Development, fundraising
barbecues, guest speakers and tours
of projects.
Past SDSU ASCE President—The
SDSU ASCE Chapter is a group of
students who are dedicated to professional
development and community service.
A couple of the founding programs
include: the Annual SDSU ASCE Career
Fair and an Elementary School Outreach
Program
Past SDSU Society of Hispanic
Professional Engineers (SHPE) President—This
organization implements programs
with one goal: to increase the number
of Hispanics in the engineering
field.
