Mission San Luis Rey Waterline
IEC was selected to design a 3,000-foot-long 10-inch diameter PVC waterline for improved fire-flow to historic Mission San Luis Rey in
Oceanside. Founded in 1798, the Mission was the largest of Alta California 21 Spanish mission, and in the early 19th century was regarded
as one of the most beautiful structures in the greater Southwest. It is no listed on both the California Register of Historic Resources and
on the National Register of Historic Place and is documented as an archeological site in the California Historic Resources Information
System (CHRIS).
Because of the Mission's status as a historic resource and the potential to encounter buried cultural deposits during the pipeline
excavations, the IEC team conduted extensive archaeological testing and prepared a historic properties treatment plan (HPTP) to guide pipeline
design and construction. Pipeline design was specifically developed to coordinate with findings of the archaeological testing. The HPTP
provides for additional protective measures, including archeaological monitoring, during construction.
